GossipReport.com - geared towards college aged people and beyond - allows users to anonymously gossip about anyone they choose. The site allows users to vote on gossip and authors of gossip, remove "trashy" gossip, and even provides a mechanism to rate people in three categories: personality, looks and in bed. "GossipReport.com is a better way to do what everybody does - gossip," explains Elizabeth Bloch, co-creator and Director of Media Relations for the site. "We intend for GossipReport.com to be a tool to police social behavior, which is the purpose and value of gossip" adds Bloch. Bloch appeared on the Dr. Phil Show in January to defend the site against Dr. Phil’s rant that called the site "malicious" where people constantly "dogged" each other. The comments came after the host of the show, Dr. Phil McGraw, who has become famous and wealthy for airing scandalous stories, opened the show by apologizing for "dogging" Brittany Spears to the paparazzi and national media after visiting her in a mental health facility. McGraw is currently under scrutiny for ethically questionable methods used to attract salacious guests. "GossipReport.com is a place for users to talk about the people and events in their lives. We have created tools to encourage valuable gossip and discourage trash talk," attests Bloch. She further claims the mission of GossipReport.com is to raise the level of conversation and hopes to teach people how to gossip constructively.
